How much does Hair Transplant Surgery Cost in Argentina?

Hair transplant average cost in Argentina is US$1.875 dollars per hair transplant surgery or session. This cost includes the implantation of 1.500 hair grafts in one single procedure (surgery or session), for 1area of the scalp (frontal, middle or vertex area of the scalp), done by top board certified plastic surgeons at high-tech, private hospitals in Argentina.

Hair grafts cost is US$ 1,25 dollar on average (-US$1.875 / 1500 hair grafts: US$ 1,25 dollars-).

Megasession: not everybody can undergo hair transplant megasession. The Patient must have an adequate donor area to provide suffcient grafts. Megasession requires a bigger incision in the donor area, that can be made in a zigzag shape to obtain the required hair grafts, approximately 3000 hair grafts.

Cost for Hair Transplant Megasession: US$2.600 (includes implantation of 3000 hair grafts - US$ 0,87 per hair graft. Get an exact cost for Hair Transplant

Important: a hair graft is not the same as 1 hair. Each hair graft is a follicular unit, a group of 1 to 4 hair in a single unit. To achieve natural results, first 1-hair grafts are implanted in the frontal recipient area (the more visible region of the scalp) in a phased manner, then 1-hair grafts, 2-hair grafts and 3-hair grafts are implanted from top to bottom, back and forth to give hair density and natural look results. The percentaje of hair grafts types implanted are approximately as follows:

» Hair Transplant Surgical Technique and Treatment Description:

Hair Transplant

The hair micro transplant, hair by hair, is a permanent surgery procedure for the baldness. At this moment, it is the most advanced and effective method in the world.

For study, we can divide the scalp in 2 different regions, perfectly differentiated one from another.  Those differences are anatomical and physiological.

There are three areas of the scalp which can receive hair transplants or hair implants, (the receiving areas). This areas are the frontal area, biparietal or middle area, and the vertex area (crown of the head - see picture below). Each receiving area (the bald areas) requires a 5 hour hair transplant surgery to achieve high hair density and natural look results. A surgery can treat 1 receiving area of the scapl. If more than one area has to be implanted, a second or third surgery can be peformed, 2 to 3 days after del first one.

For practical and visual point of view we are going to call them ZONE A and ZONE B:
Hair Transplant, scalp areas ZONE A:

  • * Frontal, Biparietal and Vertex.
  • * Area of Genetic Alopecia. Ready to fall.
  • * Hair RECEIVING, RECIPIENT areas.
ZONE B:

  • * Occipital (back), and Temporal regions.
  • * Area of permanent hair; not ready to fall; without genetic influence.
  • * Hair giver, DONOR areas.

The surgery consists in taking a small longitudinal strip from the scalp of ZONE B, (the donor areas). A strip 6 inches long (may be longer) and 0.5 inches wide, is taken from the donor area (see picture above). Then starts the activity of microscopic precision to obtain the hair micro-grafts, which later will give rise to the hair micro transplant (hair by hair) in the receiving areas of ZONE A. 2000 to 3000 hair are obtained from the strip, equivalent to 1000 to 1600 hair grafts. Approximately 1500 hair grafts are implanted.

This procedure is made on a pre-established design with the patient, agreed to his appearance characteristics and age, according to the inclination of the natural hair and the face of the patient.

Because the hair obtained from ZONE B area by the micro transplant has no genetic information for baldness, this one will be permanent and it will not fall for the rest of the patient’s life, obtaining an excellent look with very good density and, fundamentally, natural results.

» Frequently Asked Questions about hair transplant

1) How long is the surgery ?

3 to 4 hours approximately.

2) How many procedures will I need to meet my restoration goals, how many times do I have to get treated?

This depends on the number of bald areas and the level of baldness. Take into account that one hair transplant surgery surgery is required for each area. There are three areas that can receive a hair transplant (see picture and explanation of the surgical technique above). Only one session or hair transplant surgery per area is required to achieve high hair density.

3) Where is the hair transplant surgery performed?

This minor surgery is perfomed in the operating rooms of high-tech private hospitals in Argentina.

4) What type of anesthesia is used?

LOCAL ANESTHESIA is used because the procedure is simple and the it's a superficial surgery (scalp).

5) Does this surgery require hospitalization?

No. Hospitalization is not required. The treatment is totally AMBULATORY. Once finished, the patient remains approximately 1 hour in rest recovery room and in a post-surgery monitor. Then, he goes to his home.

6) Is this srugery painful?

No. The patient will take some common analgesics during the first 24 - 48 post-surgery hours. Then he doesn't need them.

7) Is there a possibility of hair implant rejection?

No, because is your own hair. The compatibility is 100%.

8) When can I begin to wash my hair?

In 48 hours with common shampoo, continuing later with daily washings.

9) When does the transplanted hair begins to grow?

In 3 months, continuing with a rate of growth of approximately 0.4 to 0.6 inches per month.

10) Is hair maintenance necessary?

No. The transplanted hair can be cut, dyed, smoothed without any damage in the follicular unit.

11) Is the result permanent?

Yes because the hair used for the transplant does not have genetic code for fall, this one will remain during all the patient’s life.

12) Does the new hair look natural?

Absolutely because follicular units of 1, 2 and 3 hairs are used in the implant, based on a planned design with the patient and the doctor, thus obtaining an excellent esthetic result, perfectly NATURAL.

13) In which cases is hair transplant indicated?

The hair micro-transplant is indicated in the following cases:

Also it is used in the reconstruction of eyebrows and sideburns.

» Baldness origin and causes

The baldness is caused by multiple reasons, like:

GENETIC ALOPECIA (HEREDITARY):

When it begins, generally in young patients, is IRREVERSIBLE, slowly and progressive. It appears most frequently in men, and women in a minimum percentage (FEMININE GENETIC ALOPECIA).

The affected areas are: In men, called ZONE A (frontal, biparietal and top nape regions). In  women, generally the frontal region is affected, called diffuse alopecia.

The MASCULINE GENETIC ALOPECIA represents more than 90% of the baldness.

STRESS:

The hair that falls by stress is recovered totally without any treatment.
Therefore the process is absolutely REVERSIBLE unlike the genetic alopecia.

OTHER REASONS:
BELIEFS:

The sanguineous irrigation does not constitute a factor of hair fall.
That irrigation of the scalp is, naturally, very abundant in bald patients as well in those that have all the hair.
Therefore, the HAIR MASSAGES or the HAIR GYMNASTICS are not necessary like part of the treatment.

The drugs like MINOXIDIL or FINASTERIDE stop "temporarily" the fall of the hair while they are used. But when the patient suspends that medication, the genetic alopecia process, unfailingly,  continues. As already explained, is IRREVERSIBLE.

Finally, the VITAMINS and AMINO ACIDS help with the treatment improving the texture, the brightness, the color and the smoothness of the hair. They do not stop the fall. The same concept is applicable to the different types of shampoos.
